Josephine Elizabeth Lampe Scheier, 92, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008, at her home in Lake Havasu City. Jo, as she was known to her family and friends, was born Dec. 1, 1915, in Ford County, Kan., to Joseph Bernard and Mary Barbara (Schmehr) Lampe.
On Dec. 30, 1940, Jo married Lawrence Anthony Scheier and began their life together in Santa Fe, N.M. In 1946 the family moved from to Santa Fe to the Grand Canyon where Lawrence worked for the Park Service. Aside from raising their five children, Jo also began practicing nursing while residing at the Grand Canyon. Upon Lawrence’s retirement in 1968, the family moved to Lake Havasu City, where Jo became the nurse at Lake Havasu High School for the next 12 years.
Jo always kept busy doing volunteer work for St. Vincent De Paul for many years. She also enjoyed sewing, making quilts and crocheting. Jo was also a caregiver to her many friends, whether it was for companionship, conversation or a warm meal. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Jo is survived by her sons, Michael Dean (MarJune) Scheier, of Eagar, Ariz., Donald Lawrence (Janel) Scheier, of Flagstaff, David Joseph (Liz) Scheier, of Page, Ariz., daughter, Mary Adelle Scheier, of Boise, Idaho., and daughter-in-law Patrice Scheier, of Meadow Lakes, Texas; grandchildren, Tonia, Andrea, Preston, Gerald, Kendall, Joycelyn, Andrew, Sheridan, Heather, Jon and Jameson; and great grandchildren, Crystal, Michael, Chanelle, Janelle, Daniel, Ryan, Nathan, Taylor, Skylar, Ambur, Nathan, Justin, Jacob, Jaycee, and Hunter.
Jo was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Anthony Scheier; twin sons, Carl Paul Scheier and Charles Joseph Scheier; and son, Dale Lewis Scheier.
Rosary for Jo will be said Saturday at 1 p.m., at Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church with a memorial mass following at 1:30 p.m. Father Fidelis Igwenwanne will be offering words of comfort and inspiration. A reception will follow the mass at the Holy Family Parish Center.
