Ramon B. Ramirez, 84, passed away in Tucson Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010. He was born in Hayden Oct. 14, 1926.
He was a career military man serving from 1945 to 1966, first in the second world war with the Army Air Corps and then with the U.S. Air Force.
As a radio operator, he used the Morse Code while dealing with the occupation of Okinawa. He was presented with the Asiatic Pacific medal, several good conduct medals, and later the Victory medals for each major war including the Korean Conflict.
Because of experiences in Berlin, Germany he was a member of the Berlin Veteran’s Association and was also a member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion. He also served in the Panama Canal Zone, at the Massachusetts Otis AFT Base and his last assignment was in Hawaii.
In the late 1940’s he worked along the international border (1,700 miles) to police with the “Circle C Cowboys” or U. S. Constabulary. In the 1970’s he aided the start of the Volunteer Dudleyville Fire Department. Finally, he worked in the copper mine, often at the entrance so everyone new him well.
He is survived by his wife Cristina Camarena Ramirez and three daughters, Cristina of Tucson, Rosa (Rosie) of Phoenix, and Andrea (Andy) of Dudleyville; brothers, Frank and Felix of Dudleyville and Winkelman respectively; sisters, Rita Morales and Romula Placencia, both of Dudleyville; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted in Hayden at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Friday, Nov. 19. After the recitation of the Rosary at 10:30 a.m., Fr. Dale Branson celebrated the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment followed at Mountain View Cemetery in Hayden.
The graveside service was graced with the Davis Monthan A.F. Base men who performed military honors and the Dudleyville Fire Department which gave remembrance and praise.
