Flora Izetta (Vanover) Ward died on Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010.
She was born Oct. 19, 1920, in Clintwood, Va., the first-born of Phillip Jefferson and Myrtle Lavona (Baker) Vanover.
She married Chester Tyrus Ward on July 19, 1938, and during WWII moved to Detroit. She worked in the factories making airplane parts and was one of the original "Rosie the Riveters." After World War II, she was employed by Greenfield Restaurant as a waitress and retired after working more than 30 years.
The couple loved to travel. She not only listened to country and western music, but loved to sing and dance. She also loved to shop and watch movies. Everyone who knew her, knew that she loved chocolate, enjoying it every day. Her love for her family always came first in her life, caring for her mother for more than 60 years.
Mrs. Ward is preceded in death by her daughter, Peggy Louise Ward; her father and mother; sister Eva Lake (Vanover) Goscenski; and two brothers, Creed Bradford Vanover and Rev. Phillip Jefferson Vanover Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Betty Sue (Dale) Dreaver; two granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by four nieces; one nephew; several great-nieces; and great-nephews.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Norvel-Owens Mortuary of Flagstaff and Clintwood-Colley Funeral Home, Clintwood, Va., where funeral services will be held at the Valley View Freewill Baptist Church.
Interment will be in Phipps Memorial Cemetery, Clintwood, Va.
