BOHNING, Arline

The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Saturday, November 27, 2010 Arline Schirmer Bohning died Nov. 18, 2010, at her daughter's home in Denver following complications from a stroke suffered in October. Arline was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on Oct. 7, 1924. She married John (Jack) William Bohning on Nov. 22, 1945, and their marriage was blessed with five daughters. Arline left Cleveland to move to Idaho where Jack was studying forestry at the University of Idaho. She moved from being a city girl working at Letterer Terminal in downtown Cleveland to a tent in the woods. She moved with Jack to make homes in Oregon, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico while he was employed by the U.S. Forest Service. Arline was an active supporter of the Society of Range Management, of which Jack was president, by supporting scholarship activities raising funds for students interested in range management, including selling Native American jewelry, for which she was well known. Besides raising their five daughters, Arline taught kindergarten in Tucson at Faith Lutheran School, hosted her own home kindergarten after their move, and was employed for a number of years by the Santa Fe and Prescott public schools as a substitute teacher and teacher's aide. They hosted numerous foster children in their home. Her six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren can attest to her love for kids of all ages. With each move, she became active in the Lutheran Church community and Aid Association for Lutherans, the PTA and various volunteer activities including thespian and choir groups. In 2006, Jack and Arline relocated from Prescott, Ariz., where he had retired from the USFS, to Paonia, Colo., to be nearer numerous immediate relatives. Her family beyond Jack includes her daughters Penny Sutton of Paonia, her sons and their families, Cedar in Virginia and Forest in Denver; Suzanne Bohning in New York City; Bonita Bock (Nelson) and two children, Nathan and Leah, and their families, all in the Denver area; Holly (Jeff) Weber of San Jose; and Nadine (Todd) Weber of Prescott and their two sons, Seth with his family in Paonia and Caelen with his family in York, England; great-grandchildren are Meagen and Garrick Sutton, Parker and Jonathan Sutton, Isaac and Jubilee Weber and Liberty Weber. Arline also has a brother in Cleveland, Don and wife Fran, and a brother in Florida, Dutch and wife Mary Lou. By special request of Arline, the accompanying photograph of her and Jack carries the caption "Together again," and it can be said they are together in the presence of their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Interment is 3 p.m. Dec. 1, 2010, at St. John's Lutheran Church cemetery in Garfield Heights, Ohio. Donations in Arline's memory may be sent to Lutheran World Relief, P.O.
