HAMMOND, Robert E. (Bob)


Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, AZ Tuesday, November 30, 2010 Robert E. "Bob" Hammond, 54, of Flagstaff, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010. Mr. Hammond was born Oct. 18, 1956, in Hollywood, Calif., to Wally and Charlene Hammond. He spent his childhood and much of his adult life in San Diego. He moved to Flagstaff eight years ago to be near his brother, Ray, with whom he had a very close relationship. Mr. Hammond spent much of his life driving trucks both cross country and locally. He loved racing. As a teen and young adult, he raced motorcycles. In his later adulthood, he got into racing midget cars. Davey Allison was his favorite NASCAR driver, and his midget car number was in Davey's honor. He enjoyed going to NASCAR races with his brother and sister-in-law. Some of his happiest times were spent on the hillside at PIR. He was a die-hard San Diego Padres and San Diego Chargers fan. He will always be remembered for his kind heart, amazing sense of humor and his ability to make people laugh. He will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him. Mr. Hammond is survived by his parents, Wally and Rochelle Hammond of Prescott and Charlene Thompson of Surprise; four beautiful daughters, Karli Cumpston, Leslie and Leigh Rivera, all of San Diego, and Amanda Warren of Illinois; his brother and sister-in-law Ray and Kyle Hammond of Flagstaff; sister Annie Stratton of San Diego; six nephews; and a multitude of friends.
