VOGEL, Barbara

Barbara (Benenato) Vogel, 76, of Tempe and a native Phoenician, born in the old St. Joseph's Hospital, passed away on January 4, 2004 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the daughter of Ilene and Dick Benenato. She graduated from St. Mary's Grammar School and was a 1946 graduate of St Mary's High School in Phoenix. After graduating from Arizona State College (now ASU) in 1950, she taught school in the Isaac School District for several years. She was later active in several organizations: First Families of AZ, Ladies of the Tempe Elks Club, and was a former member of the Las Noches Woman's Club. She is survived by Harold, her loving husband of 46 years; a daughter, Barbara Ann; son-in-law, Paul McCollum; her brother and sister-in-law, Dick and Dolores Benenato of Santa Clara, CA and 4 nieces. A memorial mass will be held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 2121 S. Rural Rd, Tempe, on Saturday, January 10th at 9 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Hospice of the Valley, 1510 East Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014 or the American Cancer Society, 2929 E. Thomas Rd. Phx, AZ 85016.
