MITCHELL, Willis Charles


Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, Arizona Published Tuesday, November 30, 2010 Willis C. Mitchell, (Jeff), 92, formerly of Lake Havasu City, passed away at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Prescott on Nov. 13, 2010. He was born Oct. 1, 1918, in Washburn, Wis. to George and Edna Mitchell. Willis served in the United States Medical Corps, retiring after 20 years of service to include the United States, England, France, Germany, and Korea. He entered the military at the age of 19, serving overseas through World War II. Although born in Wisconsin, he loved the state of Arizona and made it his home for the past 60 years, living in Phoenix, Wickenburg, and Lake Havasu City. He had a love of history and enjoyed sharing that with others, including his many, many experiences during his military service. He often said, "Those were some of the greatest times in my life." Willis was preceded in death by his wife, Frances, of 51 years. Surviving are three daughters, Melinda, Maureen, and Melissa of Lake Havasu City; three sons, Rodney of Calif., Michael, and Dennis of Phoenix. Also surviving are two brothers, Willard of Texas and Gerald of Minnesota. Inurnment will be at the National Memorial Cemetery in Cave Creek, Ariz.
