Clifton Rhudell (Red)
Clifton Rhudell "Red" Yancy, 88, of Phoenix, died peacefully at St. Michael's Care Home on Jan 4, 2004. Red was born on Oct. 13, 1915 in Tilene, KY.
As a young man in Smithland, KY, he excelled in baseball and basketball.
He married Anna Lou Heater on July 15, 1940. During WWII he worked in an ammunition plant in Paducah, KY. They moved to Phoenix in 1943, where he then worked 17 years for AiResearch. Later he worked for Vernon Company as a District Manager in advertising sales until retirement in 1980. He was an active member of Central United Methodist Church for 60 years. He coached baseball for many years in the Creighton Little League, played softball with his AiResearch company team and coached the Central Methodist softball team. He was a great storyteller, loved gardening, and was an avid sports fan.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Anna Lou; daughter, Vennie Ann of San Rafael, CA; sons: Alan (Beate) of Phoenix, and Randy (Julie) of San Anselmo, CA; grandchildren: Forest Cattich (Gary), Bodhi Aum, Jeremiah (Teresa), Erin and Morgan; as well as 6 great grandchildren.
A Memorial to celebrate his life was held on Monday, Jan. 19, 2004 at Central United Methodist Church, 1875 N. Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ, 85004. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to either: Stephen Ministry at Central United Methodist Church or National Parkinson Foundation, Inc., Mary Ann Sprinkle, Director of Development, 1501 N.W. 9th Ave/Bob Hope Rd, Miami, FL, 33136-1494.
