BRUBAKER, Ruth

Ruth Gordon Brubaker passed away on Dec. 29, 2003, just 50 days after her beloved husband Ross. She was born Jan. 7, 1913, in southern Ohio to Earl and Zella Gordon. She was the eldest of 4 children. She grew up on the family farm and attended Ohio State University. She graduated in 1934 with a diploma in Nursing. While there, she met Ross through mutual friends and they were married Oct. 8, 1935. They lived in several states before moving to Tempe, AZ in 1958. She decided to pursue her B.S. in Nursing at ASU, graduating in 1961. She worked for Maricopa County as a Public Health Nurse for 14 years while also raising her family and volunteering in many organizations. She was a warm and loving woman who touched many lives. She is survived by a sister Evelyn Wheeler of Ohio, daughters Ruth Anne Winchester (Robert), Martha Hoyt, and son John Brubaker (Anita). There are 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held at the First United Methodist Church of Tempe, 215 E. University on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004. Published in the Arizona Republic on 1/11/2004.
