The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Friday, December 03, 2010 Ruth W. Maurer, 92, passed away Dec. 1, 2010, at her home in Prescott, Ariz. She was born June 22, 1918, in Syracuse, N.Y., and moved to Arizona permanently in January of 2009, after living nearly 56 years in Horseheads, N.Y. She was an elementary school teacher, earning her B.S. in education from Syracuse University. Ruth was a charter member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Horseheads and served as church historian for many years. She was also an active member of the Horseheads Women's Club and served as president from 1976 to 1977. Ruth's husband, John, preceded her in death in 1985. She is survived by her sons, David and Robert Maurer, and their spouses Nancy L. Maurer and Beverly Maurer; along with four grandchildren, Keli Openshaw, Holli Maurer, Jeffrey and Amanda Maurer; and three great-grandchildren, Kyle and Kayden Openshaw and Benjamin Maurer. A visitation hour will be Monday, Dec. 6, from 4 to 5 p.m. at Hampton Funeral Home in Prescott, Ariz. Ruth will be buried in Syracuse, N.Y. A memorial service in Horseheads, N.Y., will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Yavapai County Community Foundation, P.O.
