Richard Melvin Young, 57, affectionately known as "Animal," of Sun Valley died suddenly Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008. He was born July 12, 1951, to Melvin Louis and Helen Rosalee Barbara (Tebbe) Groth in Oaks, N.D.
He moved to Arizona 42 years ago from his native North Dakota and worked as a devoted firefigher for the Sun Valley Fire Department. Richard was a good-hearted person who was always helping others. He was loved by all and had friends everywhere. He served in the U.S. military. He was a great mechanic, poet, writer and a lover of animals.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen Louise (Beyer) Young of Overgarrd, sister Kathryne Louise (Joseph) Torres, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Sun Valley Fire Department No. 1, 8611 N. 5th St. in Sun Valley with a potluck dinner immediately following the services.
