Ann Lee Berning, 79, On January 7, 2004 Ann Lee joined her beloved husband Joseph (Bud). Born July 25, 1924 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
"Annie" is survived by children Jo Ann Parrish, Mike Berning, Patricia Berning, Tom Berning, and Amy Berning. Daughters-in-law Judy Berning and Nancy O'Neill; grandchildren Chris (Kim), Todd, Zachary, Nick, Stephanie, Molly and Patrick and great-grandchildren Ellie and Evie Blue. She is also survived by brother Page (June) Buchholz and extended family member Margaret Cody.
Following graduation from Cardome Academy in Lexington, Kentucky, Ann went to work for Wright Aeronautical to support the WWII War effort at home. While there, a co-worker (Bud's sister Jane) encouraged her to correspond with Bud who was stationed in the Philippines. Out of this correspondence arose a loving 58-year marriage. Ann and Bud traveled extensively, especially to visit grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ann loved her service as a docent with the Phoenix Art Museum, was a gourmet cook, talented water colorist and ardent fan of the Cincinnati Reds, the Sun Devils and Diamondbacks. Ann Lee's sense of humor and devotion to family and many friends will be dearly missed. The family wishes to thank Mary Ann Beal who provided loving care and support to Ann Lee and Bud.
Mass was held on Saturday, January 10th at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Scottsdale at 3801 N. Miller. A celebration of Ann Lee's life was held at Orangewood Terraces (7550 N. 16th Street) on Friday, January 9th. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to either: Habitat for Humanity, the Phoenix Art Museum or the Hospice of the Valley c/o Berning's Fine Jewelry at 1721 E. Warner Rd., C-5, Tempe, AZ 85284. Arrangements by Messinger Indian School Mortuary, Scottsdale.
