FERENCHICK, Josephine Catherine (Peanie)

Josephine Catherine Ferenchick, or "Peanie" as her family and close friends affectionately called her, was a loving wife, mother of three and grandmother of seven. Born in Pottsville, Pennsylvania on July 23, 1930 she later moved to Garden City, Michigan with her husband Stephen and their first born child, Marilyn. It was here where they eventually had two other children Gary and Michele. Peanie and Steff were loved and adored by their neighbors with whom they shared many legendary parties and get-togethers. Though in the later years of her life she resided in Arizona, she loved to spend her summers in Michigan with her tight-knit family. Peanie had many valuable talents and skills that she always approached with endless energy and a hardworking attitude. She was widely known for her upholstering skills and greatly enjoyed knitting and sewing. Peanie made each of her grandchildren a unique quilt, and later in life, enjoyed lending her quilting skills to St. Barnabas on the Desert ECW on The Linus Project. Those who knew her will remember her for her exuberant personality, her love of people and her strong, albeit sometimes offbeat, sense of humor. Peanie was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-three years, Stephen, and is survived by her three children, Marilyn Black (Timothy), Gary (Carol) and Michele (Craig Sharp), her brother Gervase Taraskavage, sister-in-law Dorothy Taras, her seven grandchildren Hannah, Stephen, Jesse, Carolyne, Warren, Madeleine & Jacob, many nieces and nephews and close friends Gerry Rogers, and Pat & Nick Nicholes. Memorial Service was held Monday, January 22nd at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 11001 N. 40th Street, Phoenix. Published in The Arizona Republic from 1/19/2007 - 1/21/2007.
