The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Monday, December 06, 2010 Robert Fleming, 89, passed away suddenly on Nov. 13, 2010, at his home in Prescott, Ariz. Robert Earl Fleming was born Dec. 9, 1920, in Birmingham, Ala. He graduated from the Berry Schools High School in Rome, Ga., and was soon employed in the equestrian department of Arlington Hall, an elite girls' school in Arlington, Va. In World War II he served in China, Burma and India, in the last unit of the U.S. Cavalry. After the war he enrolled at Auburn U., earning a degree in Landscape Architecture / City Planning. A notable project was designing the master plan for Germantown, Tenn. Bob then joined the American Red Cross which took him to Alaska where he met his future wife, Katherine Galya. He served the military at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, the Naval Station on Kodiak Island and the Naval Station in Bremerton, Wash. before earning his teaching credential from Northern Arizona University. He taught Industrial Arts at the high school in Lake Elsinore, Calif., then moved back to Alaska in 1964, right after the big earthquake. In Alaska he settled in Chugiak and worked in real estate while Kaye taught elementary school. In 1981 they chose to retire in Prescott, Ariz., where Bob became an active member of the Lions Club. He was also an avid woodworker who built his Prescott home, and many heirlooms for his grandsons. Survivors include Kaye his wife of 52 years; son Robert Fleming and wife Linda and their sons, Austin, Aaron and Rory of Newport Beach, Calif. Bob will be forever in the hearts of the many lives he touched. Funeral services will be at the VA Chapel in Prescott on Dec. 11, 2010, at 1 p.m. Interment services will be for the family at the VA cemetery, Dec. 10, 2010.
