Jimmie Fred Taylor, born Oct. 30, 1941, died Nov. 25.
Jim Taylor was carried to heaven by God’s angels Nov 25 after 7 years of living with cancer. He died peacefully at home.
Funeral services were at Faith Lutheran Church 5200 Lake Otis on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 2 p.m. His ashes will be scattered in the Kenai River.
Jim was born in Chilicothe, Texas, to Ira and Trellous Taylor. They lived in Aguila, Ariz., until Jim was in high school when they moved to Athens, Texas.
There he enjoyed playing on the football team. He still had many close friends from his school years.
Jim served in the army from 1960 to 1963, and moved to Alaska in 1969 with his wife Genie and their son Jimmy.
Before Jim opened his own transmission repair shop in 1985, Taylor’s Transmission Service on Lake Otis, he worked for Friendly Ford, Stepp Brothers, and Cal Worthington Ford. He sold his shop and retired in 2005.
Jim loved fishing, traveling, and watching football and baseball. His teams were the Dallas Cowboys and the L.A. Dodgers. He was an avid home brewer and received many ribbons and medals for his brews. He was a member of Great Northern Brewers Club and a life member of the Bartlett Club.
In Dec 1993 Jim married Janis Abele. They enjoyed many trips together including Australia, New Zealand, and his most memorable, a two-week river cruise last year from Budapest to Amsterdam. They also traveled the United States for a few winters in their motor home.
Jim is survived by his wife Janis; his first wife Genie McAllister; son Jimmy (Dawn); grandsons Justin and Josh all of Anchorage; stepdaughter Cindy Abele and step-grandsons Trevor and Cole of Marysville, Wash.; and stepdaughter Cheryl (Eric) Simpson and step-grandsons Daniel and Matthew of Blaine, Wash.; bother Ira Taylor and nephew Jody of Las Vegas; niece Gina Hill of Salt Lake City, Utah; and grand-nephews Randy and Ryan Thompson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Delores Ames.
