The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ June 19, 2008 Alfred R. Steffen, 60, died at his home in Concho Saturday, June 7, 2008. He was born in Phoenix Aug. 23, 1947. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps with three tours of duty to Vietnam. He received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He became a veteran's rights activist and a disability advocate. Alfred was a loving father and grandfather. He is survived by son Erik Steffen, and daughter-in-law Jonna Steffen of Concho; his parents, Paul and Ida Steffen; sister Irene; and grandchildren Sage, Eli and Ryan. Alfred was preceded in death by wife Glennilah and brother Earl. A memorial service was held Wednesday, June 18, at the Show Low VFW. Burnham Mortuary of Eagar handled the arrangements.
