MACINTOSH, Jessie Laverne

Jessie Laverne MacIntosh (Hartlep) went to be with her Creator at dawn on January 11, 2004. Jessie was born in Ripley, Bruce County, Ontario, Canada on June 3, 1908. She was the second child of Angus and Catherine MacIntosh. Her family is proud to be members of the MacIntosh and MacLeod Highland Clans. She left Ripley to attend Nursing School at the Victoria Hospital and graduated with her Nursing Degree in 1930. She worked as a Public Health Nurse in rural Upstate New York, during the war years. She met the love of her life on New Year's Eve, 1947, in LaVern "Babe" Roe, who had just finished a tour in Europe with the US Army. They made their home in Milford, Michigan and raised their only child, Patricia Anne Roe. She lost her husband in 1964 and continued to work in nursing. She cultivated the medical field in her family and two of her nephews are osteopathic physicians, Drs. Albert and Robert Nestor. Her daughter, grand niece, son-in-law and grandson are all in the fields of medicine. She remarried Michael Hartlep and moved to Clearwater, Florida until 2003. She has been a Glendale resident for the past year living with her daughter and family. Jessie remained a devoted Christian throughout her life and continued to pray and sing her favorite song until her passing, "Amazing Grace". She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Roe, APN, PsyD, her brother and his wife, Donald Angus and Beulah MacIntosh in St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada, her niece, Sheila and Donald Murray of Kincardine, Canada, her physician nephews and their families in Florida and the rest of her Glendale family of Tony, Caitlin, Joseph, Michael and Buttercup Dekker. A memorial service for friends and family will be at the Dekker residence, Glendale, AZ on Jan. 19th, 2004. Call 602-564-8008 for details. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be sent to the Phoenix Indian Medical Center Auxiliary, Native Student scholarship program, 4212 N 16th Str., Phx, AZ 85016. A memorial service and burial in Ripley, Ontario, Canada will be after the Spring thaw in late April. On her annual trips to Kincardine, Ontario, her favorite activity would be the march behind the Scottish Pipers on Saturday nights. The Pipes will play for her again.
