Susan Ann Porterfield lost her five-and-a-half year battle Tuesday with cancer at her home surrounded by family and friends. She was 50.
Susie, as she was known to her many friends and customers of Susie’s Yard Care, was born on Jan. 27, 1960, in Evergreen Park, Ill., to George and Roberta (Wood) Muersch. She grew up in Evergreen Park and worked at her parent’s Ace Hardware in Homer Glen, Ill.
Sue and her three children moved to Lake Havasu City in 1994. In 1998, she started Susie’s Yard Care, working it by herself for the first couple years. She soon had her husband and sons working with her. She was a dedicated and hard worker.
Family was number one for Sue but she was always giving and helping others. She was one of a kind; loving, compassionate, strong, smart and beautiful. She was an animal lover, too. Wild rabbits and quail would eat out of her hand.
During her chemotherapy, she never complained or missed a day of work, no matter how sick she was. She will be in our hearts forever and will be forever missed.
Sue is survived by her loving husband of 13 years, Patrick Porterfield; sons, Fred Neal, of Lake Havasu City, Dan Neal, of Lake Havasu City, Patrick Porterfield II, of Las Vegas; daughter, Jesse Neal, of Lake Havasu City; parents, George and Roberta Muersch, of Frankfort, Ill.; brother, George Muersch Jr. and his wife, Rose, of Orland Park, Ill.; and grandchildren, Jordan Neal, Ryan Neal, Madison Neal and Sarah Porterfield.
Memorial Mass will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church. Father Chauncey Winkler will offer words of comfort and assurance.

Arrangements were placed under the care of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home and Crematory.
