Virgil Chapman, Jr.
Virgil Chapman Tally Jr., 78, died January 16, 2004 in Phoenix, AZ.
He was born June 23, 1925 in Northeast, Pennsylvania to Virgil Sr. and Lillian Tally.
He was a WWII Army Air Corps veteran and served as a tail gunner on a B-24 Liberator, 8th Air Force, 2nd Air Division, 466th Bomb Group. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, Local Post #9400. He was a retired supervisor of transportation with the Dial Corporation and for the past 10 years has been a volunteer of the John C. Lincoln North Mountain Auxiliary.
He is preceded in death by his wife, June, and sister, Frances Nichols. He is survived by his son, Virgil "Chip" C. Tally III (Sue), daughter, Terri Alexander (Vale), sister, Maude Mekus, grandchildren; Steve Sprinkle, Brent Tally (Carisa), Amanda Kelley (Scott) and Lindsey Alexander, great grandson, Steven Sprinkle and nieces; Diane Prochnio, Susie Mekus, Cindy Kurpiers and Leslie Richardson. He is also survived by a cousin, Michael Tally and family of Stockholm, Sweden. and several great nieces and nephews.
Memorial service was Saturday, January 24, 2004 at Hansen Mortuary 8314 N. 7th St. Phx, AZ. Memorial contributions may be made to the John C. Lincoln Auxiliary 250 E. Dunlap Rd. Phx, AZ 85020. He will be greatly missed.
