GILPIN, Mattie Alice

Alice Gilpin, born Mattie Alice Tollerson, on March 29, 1904, died March 20, 2001 after a brief illness. Born in Heard County, Georgia, and married to Wheeler Gilpin until his death in 1975, Alice had never left Georgia until 1988 when she came to Scottsdale, AZ to live with her daughter. She lived most of her life on a farm and enjoyed quilting, crocheting and lace tatting. She loved to grow all kinds of flowers. Alice is survived by her daughter Rosalie who cared for her in her last years, a son Arnold who still lived in GA, 5 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren. Her family in AZ feels blessed to have been able to share Alice's last 13 years of life. She delighted in the attention of her grandchildren and great and great, great grandchildren. Alice will be missed for a very long time. Services will be held on Saturday, March 24, 4pm in the Chapel of Messinger Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Road, Scottsdale, after which she will be returned to her home in Franklin, GA for burial beside her husband. The Arizona Republic March 23, 2001
