Edmund C. Conrow, 81, of Peoria, Arizona, passed away March 17, 2001.
Mr. Conrow was born Sept. 9, 1919 in Bronx, New York City.
He lived in the Phoenix area for about 40 years. He studied art in college and played professional baseball under the name of Conroy, prior to his enlistment in the US Army Air Corp in 1941. During WWII he flew 68 combat missions with the 8th & 12th Air Force units and was recipient of numerous medals for valor, including 2 presidential Citations and the Conspicuous Service Cross awarded by a special act of the New York Legislature, in 1954. Mr. Conrow was a life member of The Disabled American Vets, The 8th Air Force Historical Society and The 385th Bomb Group Memorial Unit USAAF. Mr. Conrow worked for the US Treasury Dept. for 30 years as an agent and supervisor, assigned to intelligence and fraud. He was also a US Treasury Dept. lecturer, instructor and college recruitor. He was honored with several awards, including the highest US Treasury Dept. award, The Albert Gallatin Award, presented in 1974 by US Secretary of Treasure William Simon.
After his retirement he wrote suspense books and had mystery stories published in Ellery Queen magazine. Mr. Conrow belonged to the national chapter of The Mystery Writers of America. His retirement also gave him time to spend on his love of painting, as he experimented with various mediums and left behind a legacy of work.
He is survived by his son, Dr. Edmund H. Conrow of Redondo Beach, California and his daughter Cheryl R. Kluber of Portland, Oregon. He will be dearly missed by his children.
Services were held on March 22, 2001 at Sunland Memorial Park in Sun City, Arizona where he was layed to rest beside his deceased wife and mother of his children, Statia H.
