WHITE,
Shirley Ann
(Maiden Name: Thornton)
The White Mountain Independent,
Show Low, Arizona ~ December 14, 2010
Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother Shirley Ann White, 78, a long time resident of Show Low and Globe-Miami went home to be with the Lord Nov. 27, 2010. She was born Nov. 10,1932, in Slaton Texas to Cora Lee and Bert Thornton whom preceded her in death.
In 1941, at the age of 9 Shirley moved with her mother and step-dad Dewey Hawkins from Texas to Globe-Miami, where she later graduated from Miami High in the class of 1951. At the age of 21, she married Manual Mariscal and was blessed with two sons Michael and Kenneth. She started work for Western Savings in the 60s, where she stayed for over 20 years, retiring when the bank closed. It was during that time she met and fell deeply in love with Vernon White. They married in 1968 and enjoyed the greatest love for over 42 years. It wasn’t long after they were married, Shirley suffered the greatest loss in her life from the death of her mother, Cora Lee, and always said Vernon was the only thing that got her through such a hard time.
In 1976, Vernon and Shirley welcomed their grand-daughter Kristie into the world and had the joy of raising her most of her young childhood. Shirley was well known for her perfection in her home, care of her family, and her timeless meticulous beauty. She and Vernon enjoyed many years of traveling, fishing, camping, and dancing. She had a passion for flowers and was always finding a new place to plant them.
In 2000 after Vernon retired, they moved to Show Low full-time. During that time she was able to devote time to her love of art work. Her greatest gift was her unconditional love for her family and the endless love notes she would write. The last three years of life were her hardest due to illness and was made bearable only by the tender love and care she received from her love Vernon.
She is survived by her adored and loving husband, Vernon James White of Show Low; sons: Michael Frank (Marne) Mariscal of Show Low and Kenneth Mariscal of Phoenix; stepchildren: Vernon (Sandy) White of Miami, Cassie Stowe of Phoenix, Loretta (Dan) Couch of Mesa and Georgann Gigi (Morey) Morris of Phoenix; grandchildren: Kristie (Scott) Loewe of Tyler, Texas and Chance Mariscal of Show Low; great grandchildren: Cameron Loewe and Hayden Loewe both from Tyler, Texas.
“Mom was also blessed through Vernon and Kenneth with an additional 22 grandchildren and 17 great grand children.”
A memorial service was held Dec. 1, at Lamont’s Mortuary of Globe, 328 South Hill Street in Globe. Internment was held at Gila Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Miami.
