PLATT, F. Jeffrey


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ June 12, 2008 F. Jeffrey Platt died peacefully June 6, 2008, in Salt Lake City, Utah, surrounded by his beloved family. He was born April 5, 1942, St. Johns to Lester Platt and Joesphine Patterson Platt. He attended high school in St. Johns and served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Ireland Belfast Mission. Jeff's schooling included a bachelor's and master's in history from Brigham Young University and a doctorate in history from Michigan State University. While at BYU, he met and married Colleen Johnson in the Oakland, Calif., LDS Temple. He served his entire career as an educator at Northern Arizona University teaching courses in European history, Elizabethan Diplomacy and the Jewish Holocaust. He was recognized for his work with the Jewish community in Arizona, recording oral histories of holocaust survivors. Upon retirement he served another LDS mission with his wife in the West Virginia Charleston Mission. Jeff will be remembered for his tireless service in the church, his love of history, his love for his family and little children and for his dignified appearance and demeanor. He had a wonderful sense of humor that was seen only by those who knew him well. He loved travel, classical music, animals, books and good food, but, most of all, he loved his wife of 42 years, Colleen; his children, Roxanne, Rachelle and RobRoy; and his 13 beautiful grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Gary, Rodney, Julie and Randy. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. at the Walker Family Mortuary located at 646 East 800 North, Orem, Utah, on Saturday, June 14. A viewing will be held at 11:30 a.m. prior to the services. Burial will be at the East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery in Provo, Utah. He was preceded by parents, William Lester Platt and Josephine Patterson Plat. Arrangements were handled by Walker Family Mortuary in Orem, Utah.
