James S. Bright, 70, of Wickenburg, died Jan. 21 in Sun City at Boswell Memorial Hospital suffering a severe stroke.
A resident of Arizona for 10 years, Bright belonged to the American Association of Retired Persons, Wickenburg Chapter and was a former member of the Wickenburg Chapter and was a former member of the Wickenburg Gem and Mineral Society in which he acted as field trip chairman for many years.
He lectured various groups in the community on muzzle loading rifles and volunteered his service to the wise Owl Nutrition center as a van driver.
Retiring to Wickenburg from California where he taught school, Bright was a veteran serving with the U. S. army in World War II.
In Wickenburg he has been a substitute teacher for many years.
Recognized nationally by the Boy Scouts of American as recipient of their prestigious Silver Beaver for distinguished service to boyhood in 1972. Bright started in scouting as a youth achieving the level of Eagle Scout. Through his son, John he continued his adult service as a leader eventually advancing to commissioner and in 1966 received the Hink Award from the Mount Diablo Boy Scout Council.
Bright is survived by his wife, Clara P. Bright, of Wickenburg; one daughter, Anna Kate Bright, of Carmichael, Calif.; son-in-law, Anna Paulick, of Wickenburg; one brother, John F,. Bright, of Corona Del Mar, Calif. and one sister, Helen B. Roy, of Pennsylvania
Services were Jan. 24 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua a Catholic Church with the Father Thomas E. Boyle officiating. Military honors at the graveside were presented by Wickenburg American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Interment was in the Wickenburg Cemetery.
Visitation was Jan 23 at Wickenburg Funeral Home Chapel.
