EDWARDS, Charles John (C.J.), II


The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Wednesday, December 15, 2010 Charles John (C.J.) Edwards II passed away peacefully at the age of 84 on Dec. 12, 2010. He was born in 1926 in the Bronx, N.Y., to Charles and Mae Edwards. He was one of three children. At the age of two, the family moved to Long Island, where he resided until the age of 17 when he joined the Navy. He served as an aviation radioman in World War II and flew in planes off the Bon Homme Richard Aircraft carrier. In 1948, he was called back to serve at the U.S. Naval Air Station in Lakehurst, N.J. After completing his term with the Navy, he attended Muskingam College in New Concord, Ohio, graduating with a B.A. in business administration. He held administrative positions in retail businesses until retiring and moving with his wife to Prescott Country Club in 1988, where he became an active member of the Men's Golf Club and served a term as President of the Club's Board of Governors. He also became an active member of SCORE, Service Corps of Retired Executives, as a vice-chairman and management counselor. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother and is survived by his wife, Mitzi; six children, Chuck, Douglas, Kevin, Barry, Teresa and Michael; two step-children, Susan Thoren and Michael Miller; and 11 grandchildren. C.J. loved life and will be greatly missed by family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 Grove Ave. #B, Prescott, AZ 86301. Edwards II, 84, of Dewey, Ariz., born June 20, 1926, in Bronx, N.Y., passed away Dec. 12, 2010, in Prescott Valley, Ariz. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. March 25, 2011, at Faith United Community Church, 1061 Old Chisholm Trail, Prescott Country Club, Dewey, Ariz. A military ceremony will follow at 2 p.m. at the Prescott National Cemetery. Sunrise Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
