Ramon S.
The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona
Wednesday, December 15, 2010
Ramon S. Garcia, 92, surrounded by his family, joined his wife in heaven on Dec. 11, 2010. Ramon (Monchi) was born in Ray, Ariz., and lived in Hayden/Winkleman, Ariz., until joining the army.
Ramon was a proud veteran of WWII, serving in the European Campaign in the 157th Infantry Regiment. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star medal and received the Purple Heart from an injury at the Battle of the Bulge. His unit had the distinction of liberating the concentration camp at Dachau. After returning home from the war, Ramon settled in Phoenix and worked for Cudahy Meat Packing for over 30 years until his retirement and then moved to Prescott.
His life was devoted to his wife of 61 years, Felipa, who preceded him in death. His greatest love was his family and he taught them lessons on love, commitment and respect. This "Hero" will be greatly missed by his five children, Raymond Garcia (Maria), Carmen Dudley (Rusty), Laura Schermann (Jim), Tonie Hidalgo (Louie) and Jessie Garcia (Fred Campbell); 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He loved tinkering in his workshop, and collected at least two to three of every tool imaginable.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. with Rosary at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, at Samaritan Funeral Home, 1505 E. McDowell Road, Phoenix, Ariz.
The Funeral Mass will be Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010, starting at 10 a.m. at Holy Spirit Church, 1800 E. Libra Drive, Tempe, Ariz., located north of Guadalupe Road on the east side of McClintock Road. Interment will follow at St. Francis Cemetery.
