Jonathan Edwin William Mendenhall of West Hollywood, Calif., died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2010, in Cadillac, Mich., while visiting family. He was 32. He was born in Grand Rapids on Jan. 14, 1978, to Edwin Gray and Alice Marion (Tenney) Mendenhall.
He grew up in Saranac and later moved to Port Huron and spent his junior year of high school in Germany as an exchange student. He graduated from Port Huron High School in 1996. He attended Kalamazoo College and later moved to California, where he did some modeling, and most recently was working as a feature writer for the Odyssey Online Magazine.
Jonathan loved writing, reading, politics and astronomy, and had a gift for languages - he was fluent in German and was learning Russian.
Survivors include his mother, Alice M. Mendenhall of Marysville, Mich.; his father, Edwin G. (Sharon) Mendenhall of Florence, Ariz.; sister Alicia (Jason) Elmore of Cadillac, Mich.; grandfather Charles C. Tenney of Marysville, Mich.; niece and nephews Zachary, Anna and Andrew; many aunts, uncles and cousins; and long time companion, Anthony Dabiere of Los Angeles. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Marion Tenney, Anne Rankin and William Mendenhall.
Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010, at the Peterson Funeral Home in Cadillac, Mich., with Reverend Bert VanAntwerpen officiating.
