Richard Martin Vanden Heuvel, 71, of Taylor, died April 11, 2008. Richard grew up in Green Bay, Wis., and lived and worked in Phoenix.
While living in Phoenix, he owed and operated with his son, the Red Onion Lounge on North Cave Creek Road. He then moved to Overgaard and opened the Red Onion Lounge in Heber. He always enjoyed the company of those who stopped to enjoy his famous hamburgers. Most recently he had his little Red Onion Hamburger wagon in Taylor.
When not working, he enjoyed reading, was a talented woodworker and made many birdhouses in addition to other projects. Richard loved his family and the company of his three little puppies. He was a pilot and kept his airplane at the Taylor and Mogollon Air Parks. Many years ago he served our country in the Marines.
Richard is survived by his loving wife and partner of the last 13 years; his sons, Guy, Ric, Lee and Kit Vanden Heuvel, all of Green Bay, Wis.; son John Vanden Heuvel of Phoenix; son Job Vanden Heuvel of Redan, Victoria, Australia; daughters Lori Gray of Flat Rock N.C., and Geri Mleziva of Green Bay Wis.; the mother of his children, Sharon Routheau of Green Bay, Wis.; stepdaughter Wendy Heilman of Gilbert; mother Margaret Vanden Heuvel of Green Bay Wis.; brothers Mike and Marty Vanden Heuvel of Green Bay, Wis.; brother-in-law Corky King of Green Bay, Wis.; sisters Judy Van Caster of Green Bay, Wis., and Robin Safford of Marshfield Wis.
Richard was preceded in death by son, Jay Vanden Heuvel; brother Ronald "Fuz" Vanden Heuvel and his father, Clarence Vanden Heuvel.
A memorial service will be held at Silver Creek Mortuary, 745 Paper Mill Rd. Taylor Saturday, April 19, at 11 a.m. A memorial service will be held in Green Bay, Wis., May 3.
