Ronnie Kenny passed away peacefully to water ski among the clouds on March 22, 2010. He was born in California but his heart and soul belonged to Arizona. Ronnie loved the Colorado River and spent all the time he could on or near it.
Ronnie was a free spirit and lived his life his way (most of it never wearing shoes). He crossed the paths of many characters in his life and had stories to tell about each of them. Strong willed (some would say stubborn) and opinionated, he could talk your ears off.
If you were involved in a conversation with him, you had better pack a lunch. He was passionate about history and spent hours watching the Discovery Channel and reading The Century by Peter Jennings, which featured astonishing great events.
He loved playing pool and anything to do with car racing especially drag racing.
While working on cars was a hobby, many would say he was a Jack of all Trades and Master of None, but Ronnie would help anyone whenever he could. This included taking in many stray cats who found their home with Ronnie and he named each one of them "No Name." Sometimes his exterior may have come across as rough but underneath he was just an ole' softie.
He is survived by his daughter Jenesses (Kenny) Casares and her husband Roland, grandson Tristin Casares, father Frank Groves, sisters Bobbie Hendrix, Sharon Moore and her husband Pat Moore, nieces Leean Hendrix, Cara Moore and nephews Tom Moore and Chad Faulkner. He was welcomed into the arms of his mother Jessie E. Groves in heaven.
Ronnie's family and friends will miss him dearly and will celebrate his life on July 8, 2010 on the banks of the Colorado River. For more information on this celebration you can contact Bobbie Hendrix at hendrixb@mail.maricopa.gov.
