Max Henry Reynolds died at his home in Eagar Dec. 26, 2010. Max was born Feb. 1, 1924, in Luna, N.M. to Charlotte Eagar Reynolds and William Harry Reynolds. He lived in Luna until he joined the Army during World War II. He was a regiment corporal with the 411th Infantry and served in Northern Africa and Europe. He was wounded in action in France and was awarded the Purple Heart.
After his military service he married Eva Meredith June 23, 1956 in Luna, N.M. They made their home in Tucson for several years prior to moving to Washington State where they farmed on the Royal Slope for many years. They eventually moved to Mattawa, Wash. where they owned and operated Family Mart grocery store and a postal station. They retired in 1983 and moved back to Luna, N.M. Max and Eva spent many happy years there, spending a lot of their time on the Upper Ranch.
During the summers they would often have grandchildren stay with them for many weeks, which the grandchildren remember fondly. Max always enjoyed the Luna 24th of July celebrations when his children and grandchildren could attend. Max and Eva later moved to Eagar where they remained until his death. Max will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his dry sense of humor, his sharp mind, his love of reading and in his later years, his great love of fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Eva; their children Debbie (Jim) Frederick of Tucson; Wayne (Jean) Reynolds of Goodyear; Diane (Eric) Zollinger of Menan, Idaho; Charlotte Reynolds of Avondale; Carl (Kathy) Reynolds of Moses Lake, Wash.; and Barbara (Bret) Calaway of St. George, Utah; 21 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers and sisters: Naomi (Bill) Nolan of Silver City, N.M.; Ralph Reynolds of Pinetop; David Reynolds of Cheyenne, Wyo. and Beth (Roger) Cluff, La Cruces, N.M.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Lamar Reynolds and Merle Reynolds.
On Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011, the family will receive those wishing to offer condolences from 10-11 a.m. at Burnham Mortuary, 535 North Main in Eagar, followed by a graveside service in Luna, N.M. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to VFW for Service, 593 North Main Street, Eagar, AZ 85925.
