Betty Starr Slingluff, 89, passed away Dec. 23 at Havasu Nursing Home in Lake Havasu City.
She was born Dec. 27, 1917, in Lakewood, Ohio, to Clinton E. and Lucy P. (Hall) Starr. Betty grew up and attended grade and high school in Seattle. She moved to Detroit. She attended Michigan State University along with her older sister, Lucia. She later returned to Seattle with Lucia and worked as a home economist with the Puget Sound Power and Light Co. Betty married James Slingluff on Jan. 29, 1933, and lived in Silver Springs Md., with James and their son, Tom. Betty worked as a computer programmer with the John Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory until retirement in 1986. She moved to Lake Havasu City in October 1986 from Silver Springs.
Betty is survived by her sister Lucia S. Grilley and granddaughter Caro Slingluff. She was preceded in death by her husband and son.
