WAY, Elias Allen


Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, Arizona August 13, 1987, page 2 Services were conducted Tuesday at the Wickenburg Funeral Home for Elias Allen Way, 74, of the Wickenburg area. Rev. Delbert Henderson officiated. Mr. Way died Aug 6 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix. He was born Oct. 8, 1913 in East Hadham, Conn. He had lived in the Wickenburg area since August 1954, moving from the Four Mile River Road in Connecticut. Known to his close friends as “Lank” or Abe” Way was a well-driller, fence builder, general contractor, cowboy and junk dealer and had a lifelong love for cattle ranching. He also worked as a carpenter, and built Jean’s Café and remodeled the old Santa Fe Café into the present-day Gold Nugget. Way worked for Sam Steiger in Prescott and helped build Steiger’s ranch there. He was the first man to drill a well west of the Hassayampa River with a cable tool rig, in 1967. He loved the times and his close friendship with his many friends. Survivors include two sons, Allen and Bob Way, both of Morristown; and nine grandchildren.
