Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, Arizona October 29, 1987, page 2-A Memorial services were Wednesday in St. John’s Episcopal Church in Idaho Falls, Idaho, for the Rev. Albert W. “Bert” Metcalf. Rev. Metcalf, 78, died Oct. 21 in the University of Utah Medical Center in Salt Lake City following a lingering illness. Rev. Metcalf had served two years as interim-rector at Sts. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Wickenburg, and was a familiar figure in the community. A special memorial service was conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Alban’s in his memory. Rev. Metcalf was born may 21, 1914 at Mobile, Ala., to Albert W. and Anne Porter Metcalf. He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Denver in 1936 and studied at the Church Divinity School of Pacific in Berkeley, Calif. He married Judith Ann Mast in 1939 at St. Louis, Mo. He was ordained a deacon in the Episcopal Church in June, 1968 and was ordained a priest by Idaho Bishop Norman L. Foote Dec. 14, 1968 in St. John’s Episcopal Church in Idaho Falls. Rev. Metcalf was instrumental in establishing St. Peter’s Episcopal Parish in St. Anthony and had served as associate for St. John’s Episcopal Church and as a rector at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, both in Idaho Falls. He was a pioneer in the television industry in Idaho Falls. In his early years Rev. Metcalf had worked as a circus musician, university journalism instructor, Press Association bureau manager, radio announcer/newscaster, TV station manager and a special program and sales representative. He is survived by two sons, Charles Metcalf of Germany, and Patrick Metcalf, stationed with the military in Florida; a sister, Mary Jane Donnalley of Dallas, Texas; and four grandchildren.
