Kathleen J. Bragg, 88, a 24-year resident of Prescott, Ariz., passed away on Dec. 23, 2010, at Rose Lane Care Home in Prescott. She was born on March 15, 1922, in Marion, Iowa, the daughter of George and Ruth Oxley.
Kathleen graduated from Marion High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, active in school plays and the glee club, a member of the newspaper staff, chairman of the homecoming committees, and a four-year member of the drama club. She graduated in the class of 1940.
She graduated from Grinnell College in 1944 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She then attended the University of Southern California where she received her Master of Science degree in education. Kathleen had a passion for learning and education, and went on to earn 60+ units beyond her master's degree from USC, Whittier College and UCLA.
Her undergraduate activities and honors included teaching classes in golf, swimming, archery, bowling, hockey, physical fitness and dancing.
She was a teacher of cadets for physical conditioning, a member of interschool hockey team, chairman of Women's Intramurals and a member and officer in the Women's Athletic Association.
Kathleen spent 37 years as a teacher, counselor and vice principal, seven years in the Marion Public Schools, then 30 years in California in the Compton and Downey school systems. She retired on June 30, 1982.
Kathleen loved playing golf, playing the organ, reading and all kinds of needlework. She loved dogs and her little dog Sophie was by her side when she passed. Kathleen was a wonderful person, and a good friend to many. She will truly be missed.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her first husband, Dale B. Goodyear, who was killed in France on Jan. 22, 1945, and her second husband, Donald E. Bragg who passed away on May 20, 2007.
A date for her memorial service has not been set at this time.
