Virginia Lois Thayer Heap, 80, died Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at Beacon Place from complications of pulmonary fibrosis.
She was born March 12, 1928, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Drs. Robert and Edna Thayer. A graduate of Brigham Young University, she was interested in the arts and enjoyed drama, music and reading in particular. She worked in the classified department at several newspapers and retired from the Contra Costa Times in Walnut Creek, Calif.
She married Norman Leo Heap Sept. 1, 1954. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served as a missionary in the U.S. West Central States Mission and in the Botswana Zone of the South Africa Johannesburg Mission. She was known for her wonderful sense of humor and her kindness and generosity.
She is survived by her husband, Norman; sons David, Paul and Glenn; daughters Elisabeth Heap and Janet Haight; 12 grandchildren; sister Elizabeth Reynolds; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services were held Saturday March 22, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Downtown Chapel, in St. Johns. Interment will be in Taylor. A viewing was held at 10 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
