William "Bill" Cain, 82, of Show Low died Easter Sunday, March 23, 2008, at Carriage House in Snowflake. He was born Dec. 5, 1925, in Paxton, Ill.
Bill grew up in Weldon, Ill., and at age 12 went to live with his aunt, Myrtle Long, and her family in Le Roy, Ill., through high school. He entered the U.S. Army and was with the 102nd Infantry, serving in the Battle of the Bulge and later as a guard at the Nuremburg trials.
In July 1946 he married Tella Pratt, and they were married over 61 years. They lived most of their married life in Tucson, and in 1991 began living in Show Low in the summers until moving there permanently in 2001.
Bill worked for Tucson Electric Power Co. over 30 years. He was a member of the Benevolent Order of Protective Elks, Show Low Lodge 2090.
Bill was an avid University of Arizona Wildcat fan and really enjoyed playing golf and walking in the Show Low City Park daily until health no longer permitted.
Bill is survived by his wife, Tella; son Todd Cain of Show Low; two granddaughters, Lindsey N. Brown of Salem, Ore., and Renee M. Cain of Tiffin, Ohio; two cousins, Audrey Moss of Downs, Ill., and Carmin Huisinga of Tucson.
No services are planned.
A memorial to honor Bill has been established with the Arizona Elks Major Projects for Children's Research at University of Arizona Medical Center, P.O. Box 245073, Tucson, AZ 85724, where contributions may be made in his name.
Arrangements are under the direction of Black's Mortuary in Show Low.
