Mason City Globe Gazette - Mason City, Iowa February 1, 1997 Chester A. Hill, 86, of Belmond, died Friday (Jan. 31, 1997) at the Belmond Health Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, rural Belmond, Iowa with the Rev. Lowell Halvorson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Tenold Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Chester A. Hill, the son of John and Christina (Hillestad) Hill, was born July 31, 1910, at Belmond, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, rural Belmond. He attended rural school and began farming on a farm west of Belmond. He was united in marriage to Marjorie Thompson on Aug. 30, 1939, at Grand Rapids, Minn. They farmed together west of Belmond until 1979, when they retired to Belmond. He was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, served many years on the church board and served on the Clarion Elevator Board. He enjoyed fishing, his Norwegian jokes and gimmicks and games. He enjoyed his winters in Arizona for 28 years. Surviving him are his son, Tom Hill and his wife, Cheryl, of Belmond; daughter, Jane Quinlivan of Owatonna, Minn.; grandchildren, Jarrod and Jonathan Quinlivan of Owatonna, Minn.; Robert Hill and his wife, Melissa, of Belmond; Barbara (Hill) Meyer and her husband, Jeff, and great-grandson, Lucas Meyer of Corwith; sister, Annie Lewis of Clarion; and brother, Herbert Hill of Belmond. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie, in 1996; sister, Carrie; and brothers, Joseph and Henry.
