Richard Donald Avon, 79, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, at his home in Vernon. He was born Aug. 18, 1928, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Tony and Grace Avon.
Richard served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1956. He was a Korean War veteran. At the age of 17, he began working at California Hardware, a wholesale hardware dealer, where he worked until the age of 65. He was an avid bowler his whole life and attained the perfect score of 300.
He was also president of the 700 Club. Richard was a lifetime member of the American Bowling Association, the San Gabriel Valley Bowling Association and the White Mountain Bowling Association.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Avon of Vernon; sons Robert (Carol) Avon of Joseph City; Randy (Donna) Avon of Cortez, Colo.; daughter Kelly Avon of Vernon; nine grandchildren, Sarah, Noah, Jessica, Sheena, Desiree, Jamie, Britni, Brandon and Brandy; and four great grandchildren, Hailey, Alexis, Sienna and Noah.
Richard was preceded in death by one grandson Raymond Joseph Padilla, two sisters and his parents.
Services will be held Saturday, Feb. 23, at 10 a.m. at St. Johns Catholic Church in St. Johns.
