The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ February 29, 2008 Winnie Mae Fontenot, 90, of Show Low died Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, at Rim Country Health Center in Payson. Mrs. Fontenot was born May 24, 1917, at Manitou, Okla., to Charlie and Alma (Broom) Nichols. She moved to California in her youth and Las Vegas, Nev., as a young adult. It was there that she met and married Allen Fontenot. She worked in the gaming industry in Las Vegas for many years before coming to Show Low in 1991. She always enjoyed work and was otherwise a homebody. She was of the Catholic faith. Survivors include three granddaughters, Lisa (Josh) Ponder, Shonna Ponder and Angela Ponder, all of Holbrook; two sisters, Lou Kentepp and Stella Kohfield, both of California; three great grandchildren, John Morgan, Jacqueline Morgan and Ciera Irving, all of Holbrook. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and daughter, Beverly Ponder. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 27, in the chapel of Black's Mortuary with Father Gil Mangampo officiating. Entombment will be at the Palm Mausoleum in Las Vegas.
