HARRIES, James

The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ February 29, 2008 James Harries, 69, died peacefully Feb. 17, 2008. He was born July 27, 1938, in Twin Falls, Idaho. His family later moved to Arizona, where Jim graduated from West High School in 1956. Jim graduated from Arizona State University, where he was a proud member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He later earned his law degree from the University of Arizona and had a successful law practice for over 35 years. In semi-retirement, he had a small law practice in the White Mountains as an excuse to live at his beloved Overgaard cabin. At heart, Jim was a country boy. He enjoyed trout fishing from his aluminum flat-bottomed boat, deer hunting with his friends, listening to the song of the meadowlark and eating homemade peach ice cream. He will be deeply missed. He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret; daughter Amy and her husband Ryan; his son Bill and daughter-in-law Dynorah; his daughter Elizabeth and son-in-law Dan; stepdaughter Kerry; grandchildren Elijah, Benjamin and Grace; sister Barbara and brother-in-law J.B. His grandchildren will dearly miss his storytelling, "doing the pop" and giving bears hugs. His parents, Ford Howell Harries and Aileen Bingham Harries, preceded him in death. There will be a "celebration of life" service for Jim at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, at Day Springs Methodist Church, 1365 E. Elliott Road in Tempe. In recognition of his love for reading, memorial contributions in Jim's name may be made to the Heber/Overgaard Rim Community Library, 3404 Mustang, P.O. Box 305, Heber, AZ 85928.
