(Maiden Name: McCullough)

The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ March 4, 2008 Join in celebrating the life and memory of Madalynne C. Henderson. Born in Everett, Wash., she was preceded in death by her husband, Alonzo; mother Bertha Herring; father James Herbert McCullough; brother Herbert and sister Patricia. Active in her youth with sports, she loved the outdoors. As a young woman, she was a secretary for the U.S. Navy in San Francisco, Calif., where she met and married her first husband, Mr. Tilly Eckman. After the move to San Diego, Calif., and a divorce, she worked for the San Diego City Schools as a purchasing manager. She met Alonzo Henderson in 1962 and they married in 1964. She then became an instant mother to three teenagers with the addition of Al's children. They lived in Imperial Beach, Calif., from 1964 until 1978, when they moved to Nutrioso to be near Al's family and build their dream house. Both Al and Madalynne were active in the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star, Springerville VFW, White Mountain Hospital Board and Auxiliary, Pine Crest Mesa Water Co. and Nutrioso Community Association. After Al passed in 1997, Madalynne continued volunteering with the hospital auxiliary and VFW. She assisted with the Hospital Scholarship Program for the Round Valley School District and made her famous pecan pies and other crafts for the Nutrioso Community Association and the Alpine Presbyterian Church. She was a concert-trained pianist and often entertained family and friends with her melodies. She and Al loved people, dancing and football. Fittingly, she quietly left to be with him Feb. 3, 2007, at 7:30 p.m. during the Super Bowl game. She and Al are survived by their children, Michele Majewski of Haines City, Fla., Michael Henderson of Yermo, Calif., and Mariann Fasciola of Sierra Vista; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and extended family in California, Washington and Oklahoma. A memorial service will be scheduled for the summer of 2008 in Springerville. In lieu of flowers she requested donations to be made to the American Heart Association.
