The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ February 1, 2008 Jo-Ellen Rountree, beloved wife of Enos Rountree, departed this life Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, with her family by her side at Payson Medical Center. She was born Jan. 29, 1936, in South Gate, Calif. Jo-Ellen resided in Show Low for 26 years before moving to Tonto Basin to retire with her husband of 54 years. She took great pride in devoting herself to her family and home while raising her children in Taft, Calif. She supported her children by volunteering for Little League, Girl Scouts and dance making scores of costumes for recitals. Later, she moved to Arizona and was employed with Valley National Bank in Show Low as a teller. Family and friends alike loved her for her genuine nature and practical sound advice. She was inspirational in always believing in people's ability to do the right thing to succeed. She was described as amazing, strong, faithful and the most fabulous woman known to her friends. The family would like to acknowledge the many wonderful friends for their thoughts and prayers and for loving her as they did. She is survived by her husband, Enos Rountree; daughters Donna Shoemaker and Gail (Mark) Brill; son Steven (Kathy) Rountree; daughter-in-law Wendi Rountree; brothers Daniel and Edgar Dustin; eight grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sons, David Dwayne Rountree and William Erie Rountree. A private memorial service was held Wednesday, Jan. 23, at the Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Tonto Basin, where family and friends shared memories of her devotion and dedication to her family.
