GREEFKENS, Suzan M.

(Maiden Name: Wagenfehr)

The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ February 1, 2008 Suzan M. Wagenfehr Greefkens died Jan. 25, 2008, in Mancos, Colo. She was born Dec. 30, 1963, in Flagstaff to Robert and Cathy Wagenfehr. Suzan had an extensive academic career attending schools in Albuquerque, N.M., and Blue Ridge High School in Pinetop-Lakeside. She graduated from Northern Arizona University with degrees in biology, anthropology and education, but dance was always her passion. Suzan worked in many capacities throughout her life devoted to education and creative expression, bringing together people's need for dance, music, the outdoors and community. She worked vigorously to integrate many areas of education for children and the public, feeling that the most integral parts of ritual, history and dance needed to be passed on to the world around her. She received awards for educational program development at the Anasazi Heritage Center Museum in Cortez, Colo., educational Web sites at NAU and for coordinating cultural and dance events in Flagstaff. She was a dedicated educator, river runner, outdoorswoman and mother. Her vibrant passion to live fully in the world influenced all those around her. Her family and friends will remember her best for her spontaneity over potlucks, music, campouts, river running and, of course, any opportunity to dance. She is survived by her husband, John Greefkens of Mancos, Colo.; son Kegan Azul Craig of Mancos, Colo.; stepdaughter Sarah Greefkens; her parents, Robert and Cathy Wagenfehr of Glendale; brothers Tyler Wagenfehr (Lee) of Pinetop and Robert O. Wagenfehr Jr. (Raquel) of Waddell; three nieces, Julia, Sarah Shyanne; and numerous friends and relatives. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Suzan M. Greefkens Memorial Fund at Dolores State Bank, Dolores, Colo., to assist with her son's educational fund.
