Amos Lee "Famous Amos" McCarty, 22, of Snowflake died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008, at Summit Medical Center following a long illness. He was born May 16, 1985, in Yuma, son of William Lee McCarty.
He spent his early years in Yuma and was able to attend school through the eighth grade. He came to Snowflake with his family in 2003. He suffered with muscular dystrophy all of his life and was one of "Jerry's Kids."
He was a "people person" and enjoyed being with everyone. He liked to watch wrestling and professional bull riding. He had a large collection of photos of his favorite bull riding competitors. He loved to go to Old Tucson and especially liked the "Dance Hall Girls." He has been described as having always been "An Angel in Waiting."
He is survived by his parents, Bill and Patricia Ann McCarty, and maternal grandmother Mary M. Bennett of Snowflake.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Harold Bennett.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 2, in the chapel of Black's Mortuary in Show Low.
