Iva G. Clayton of Phoenix and Prescott, Ariz., passed away Oct. 1, 2008, at the age of 98.
Iva and her late husband, John, pastored Methodist churches in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio before coming to Phoenix in 1951.
A graduate of Vennard College, Iva enjoyed a career as a legal secretary that included working at the Maricopa County District Attorney’s office and the Arizona State Banking Department. In later years she continued her church work and developed a love of flowers, wildlife and birds. She was a member of the Washington Garden Club of Phoenix.
Her sons and daughters-in-law, John Stanley Clayton (Betsy) of Tempe, David Clayton (Pamela) of Phoenix, and Philip Clayton (Carol) of Prescott, will mourn her, as will her six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Of her six siblings, Iva is survived by a brother, Everett, and sister Marylyn in Ohio.
Service will be 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, at the First Church of the Nazarene, 19201 N. 7th Ave., Phoenix, Ariz. A visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, at Hansen Chapel, 8314 N. 7th St., Phoenix.
