Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, Arizona March 17, 1988, page 2-A There were no local services for Dr. Joyce Ralph Mitchell, 82, who died March 7 at his home in Wickenburg. Dr. Mitchell, a retired chiropractor, was born in Orchard on Dec. 31, 1905. He had lived in Arizona for almost 40 years, moving to Wickenburg in August, 1948. The son of William F. and Susan Mitchell, he grew up on his father’s farm, and later attended the Los Angeles School of Chiropractic. There he met and married his wife of 42 years, Dr. AEola Huston. After graduating at Los Angeles, he attended the National School of Chiropractic in Chicago where he matriculated in Naturopathy, graduating in 1948 with N.D. and PH.D. degrees. After moving to Wickenburg in 1948, Dr. Mitchell and his wife moved to Prescott in 1954, practicing in that community for 11 years. They then spent a year in Scottsdale, moving back to Wickenburg in 1966. Dr. Mitchell was a charter member of the Wickenburg Saddle Club, a Past Patron of the Hassayampa Chapter No. 35, Order of the Eastern Star in Wickenburg, and also a Past Patron of Golden Rule Chapter No. I, OES of Prescott; a life member of York Rite of Freemasonry and Aztlan Lodge No. 1, a member of the Wickenburg Shrine Club, and a member of the American Association of Retired Persons. He was also a member of the “Smoki” People of Prescott and danced several years in the famous Snake Dance. Dr. Mitchell was also a standout horse trainer, having a pair of white Quarter houses which won the Mitchells 78 prizes and trophies and over 150 ribbons in parades, shows and gymkhanas. He bred, raised, trained, showed and sold Quarter horses which were descendants of the famous Crowder line, from the King Ranch stallion “Poco Bueno,” and the outstanding palomino stallion “G-Fern Hornet.” He was an avid bowler, having won many trophies, and in later years played the violin in the Wise Owl Band. Survivors include his wife, AEola, of Wickenburg; two brothers, Leon and Theron, and three sisters, Edith Parkhurst, Edna Bonge and Doris Rabe, all of Orchard, Neb.; several nieces, including Claudia Billingsley of Wickenburg; and three step-children, Sandera Schwartz of Prescott, Austin Benditz of Cleveland, Ohio, and Paul Benditz of Houston, Texas.
