Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, Arizona April 14, 1988, page 2-A There were no services for John L. Wright, a former longtime Wickenburg educator, who died April 11 in Boswell Hospital in Sun City. Mr. Wright, 73, was born Jan. 6, 1915 in Glendale, and was a retired Wickenburg Elementary School principal, working 31 years for the old Wickenburg School District No. 9. He served 26 years as principal of the Wickenburg Elementary Schools before his retirement. Mr. Wright was a graduate of Phoenix Union High School and Arizona State University, with a masters degree in Education. He was past master of Hassayampa Lodge No. 37, F&AM of Wickenburg; past high priest of Oasis Chapter No. 35, Order of Eastern Star; past president of the Wickenburg Rotary Club, in which he had 25 years of perfect attendance; a life member of the National Educational Association; was a member of the Wickenburg chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons; a member of the Desert Caballeros Western Museum; and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wickenburg. He served one term of the Wickenburg Town Council. Survivors include his wife, Ethel, of Wickenburg, a daughter, Virginia Peck of Thatcher, a son, John ., of Prescott Valley; two brothers, Robert Wright of Van Nuys, Calif. and William Wright of Phoenix; one sister, Margaret Wickliffe of Van Nuys, Calif.; six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. The family request that memorial contributions be made to a charity or church of the donor’s choice.
