Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, Arizona July 7, 1988, page 2 Private services were conducted recently for Shirley Margaret Foley, 70, of Wickenburg and Chicago, Ill., who died June 25 in the Wickenburg Nursing Home. Mrs. Foley was born In Iowa Falls, Iowa on July 17, 1917 and had lived in Wickenburg for the past nine years. She was a graduate of Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, with a degree in bacteriology. She worked for the Oregon State Department of Health before returning to Duke University in North Carolina, earning a master’s degree in medical mycology. Mrs. Foley was employed in the Hectone Laboratory affiliated with Cook County Hospital in Chicago, where she worked until her retirement in 1979. She was head of the Medical Mycology section Hectone for most of the 27 years she was employed at the laboratory. She was an avid traveler, a student of the ancient Indian culture and architecture of Mexico and Central America, an orchidist, a gardener and a dedicated lover of and worker in museums. She was a life member of the Field Museum of Chicago and the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. She is survived by her husband, Dr. E.J. Foley of Wickenburg.
