The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ January 4, 2008 Dallas E. Hammond, CPA, of Show Low died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007, at home following a brief illness. He was born Jan. 19, 1926, at Cleone Ill., the son of Luther and Ala (Wiser) Hammond. He grew up in Martinsville, Ill., and served as a radioman in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Following an honorable discharge he attended the University of Illinois earning a degree in accounting in 1949. He married the former Waldtraut (Wally) Grueneberg Oct. 30, 1954, at Emmaus, Pa. They lived in Evanston and Ottawa, Ill. before moving to Scottsdale in 1959 where he founded the accounting firm of Hammond, Travers and Tuttle, PC. He retired in 1989 and they moved to Show Low in 1998. He was an active member of White Mountain United Methodist Church, where he served as church treasurer; the Arizona Society of CPAs and the American Institute of CPAs. He enjoyed golf, reading and travel. His wry sense of humor, caring nature and exemplary personal and professional ethics endeared him to family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Wally of Show Low; daughter Donna Ascanio of Gaithersburg, Md.; two sons Robert Hammond of Scottsdale and Greg Hammond (Candice) of Las Cruces N.M.; six grandchildren and other family members including Xave Ascanio. He was preceded in death by his parents; son Roy Hammond and two brothers, Evan and Haven Hammond. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to either the Organ Fund of White Mountain UMC or to White Mountain Hospice Foundation, 1789 W. Commerce Dr., Lakeside AZ 85929. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at White Mountain United Methodist Church, 261 N. 5th St., Show Low, and 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at Scottsdale United Methodist Church, 4140 N.
