Helen Janie Plumb Cowley, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, died Jan. 5, 2008, at the age of 89.
She was born Feb. 14, 1918, in St. Johns to Verner George Plumb and Sarah Janie Mackey.
She was preceded in death by her only sister, Ada McDonald.
She married Hugh Cowley and they enjoyed a long life together. Hugh preceded her in death in 2003. She spent her entire life in the small Northern Arizona town where she was born.
Her life was spent in service to her community, her church and her family. She was president of the PTA, served on the school board and held many positions and callings in the LDS Church.She was an exemplary mother, homemaker and always expected the best of herself and of her five children. She always wanted them to look their best and be their best. Grandma Helen was loved by her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Christine (David Newton) Neal, Dixon Duke (Alice) Cowley, Janet (Larry) Rogers, Charles Hugh (Terry) Cowley and Margret (Bill) Bond. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 49 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held to celebrate her life Saturday, Jan. 12, at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Downtown Chapel, with a viewing one hour prior at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at the St. Johns Westside Cemetery in St. Johns.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to the Perpetual Education Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
